Crash cushions are used to protect vehicles from hitting rigid objects or prevent them from crashing with the beginning or end of a safety barrier. To increase the protective function different designs exist.

Common for all crash cushions are that they should be tested for a speed class and CE-marked. The properties of a crash cushion are described by:
